TASC Senior Scholarship

TASC recognizes 5 outstanding seniors with college scholarships. Completed applications must be submitted online via the TASC website by the December 1 deadline. The Past-President School Advisor is assigned the responsibility for selecting members to judge the scholarship applications and for tabulating the results.

In recognition of the enormous contributions of many students to the Student Council programs, the Texas Association of Student Councils will recognize five outstanding graduating seniors with college scholarships. The amount of each scholarship will be $1,000. Individual councils may nominate no more than two applicants. Completed applications must be submitted online via the TASC website by December 1.

You will need to download and print the scholarship form. Then complete or have the following pages completed prior to asking your advisor to submit your application.

  • Student Information pages 1 and 2 (Page two is the activities section.)
  • Student Statement
  • Advisor's Recommendation
  • Second Recommendation
  • Transcript

Students must print or complete and save the student information pages and student statement. The second recommendation page must be given to the appropriate person as well. The advisor must complete the Advisor Recommendation. The form may be emailed to the advisor and second recommender so that it can be completed and then printed. (These are fillable forms, so you can email the entire form and ask individuals to complete only the portion that applies to them.)

All sections must be submitted to the advisor who can upload the application via the TASC website. All materials should be scanned and uploaded as one document.  Do not use Google for this.  Should the advisor have problems unloading the document, call 512-443-2100 ext. 8520 or extension 8507.

U.S. Senate Youth Program

The United States Senate Youth Program, established in 1962 by U.S. Senate Resolution, is a unique educational experience for outstanding high school students interested in pursuing careers in public service. The annual program will be held in Washington, D.C., from March 3–10, 2018. Two student leaders from each state, the District of Columbia and the Department of Defense Education Activity will spend a week in Washington experiencing their national government in action. Student delegates will hear major policy addresses by Senators, cabinet members, officials from the Departments of State and Defense and directors of other federal agencies, as well as participate in a meeting with a Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. All transportation, hotel and meal expenses will be provided by The Hearst Foundations. In addition, each delegate will also be awarded a $10,000 College Scholarship for undergraduate studies, with encouragement to pursue coursework in history and political science.

The Texas United States Senate Youth Program is for high school students who demonstrate leadership and an interest in government. Students must be a junior or senior in High School. Interested students must be nominated by the high school principal and/or student council advisor and inform them that you are interested in applying to the Texas US Senate Youth Program. Students must have their recommendation to apply) and submit the completed application and supporting documentation to TASSP by October 15. The student applicant must currently be serving in an elected capacity in any one of the following student government, civic or educational organizations.  See the application form for more specific information.

  • Student Body: President, Vice President, Secretary, or Treasurer
  • Class President, Vice president, Secretary or Treasurer
  • Student Council: Representative
  • District, regional, or state-level civic or educational organizations representative
  • National Honor Society officer (Only elected officers are eligible)

NOTE: School clubs (e.g., Chess Club/Language Honor Societies) are not considered civic or educational organizations.

TASC Junior Counselor Positions

TASC SUMMER LEADERSHIP WORKSHOP JUNIOR COUNSELOR SELECTION

An integral part of the TASC Summer Workshop experience is the role of the JC (Junior Counselor). JCs are expected to model high standards of behavior, interact with workshop delegates, work closely with the Workshop Consultant and Director by leading activities on stage and working behind the scenes to ensure the success of the workshop.

In order to be selected as a JC, a student must have previously attended a summer workshop and must be returning to high school the following fall (i.e. graduating seniors are not eligible).

These applications must be submitted online via the TASC website no later than December 1.  The advisor must submit the application.

Please note: you can upload ONE  document file only. If you have more then one document combine them to one PDF file before uploading.  Do not use Google doc links, etc.

TASC ADVANCED LEADERSHIP WORKSHOP JUNIOR COUNSELOR SELECTION

High school students are given the opportunity to serve as Junior Counselors at either of the Advanced Leadership Workshops. (Lakeview or Mo-Ranch) It is recommended that applicants have experience with the Summer Workshop Program as JCs or delegates and have a solid record of participation in TASC state and district events and activities. Students must be currently enrolled in a high school.

If a student is applying for both Summer and Advanced, both applications must be completed. An advisor’s recommendation can apply to both.  These applications must be submitted online via the TASC website no later than December 1.  The advisor should submit the application.
